For this occasion, we chose the W Toronto. **Why the W Toronto?** Opened in 2022, this hotel is located in the vibrant neighborhood of Yorkville. While this places it away from traditional tourist spots like the CN Tower or St. Lawrence Market, its location is strategic due to its connectivity: offering direct access to the main subway line and a seamless connection to Union Station and Pearson Airport.

### 🔑 Booking and Check-in We made the reservation through the Marriott Bonvoy app. A traveler's tip: we used the app's chat before arriving to let them know we would be celebrating a special occasion. Upon arrival, the reception is located at the end of the lobby, sharing the floor with the bar, which immediately sets the social vibe of the place. We checked in and received great news: we were given an upgrade from the Premiere Terrace Guest Room we had originally booked to a Studio Suite King.

### 🛏️ The Room: Design vs. Functionality The elevators are located to the right of the reception; you select your floor with your room key. Upon reaching the 10th floor, where our room was located, you notice that the hallways are a bit narrow, non-linear, and dimly lit, making you feel like you could easily get lost. The W's bold design contrasts textures and materials, creating a theatrical and artistic atmosphere. Entering the Studio Suite, the "open concept" design is the first thing that makes an impact: **The Layout:** The first thing you see or notice upon entering are the two sinks and mirrors facing the door—essentially, you "enter through the bathroom." Turning to the right, glass doors separate the toilet and the shower. To the left, there is a table with three chairs and the closet in the background. **The Bed:** It is located in front of the window, with its back to the light, facing the bathroom mirrors and a TV that is not centered with the bed. The bed is a good size and comfortable. **Our Critique:** For those of us who love natural light, the layout felt like a miss. The bed blocks the incoming light (which faces an internal courtyard) and leaves the sofa in the darkest part of the room, forcing you to use the floor lamp even during the day. Swapping the position of the bed with the sofa would have been ideal. **Details that count:** - The room is spacious, with a coffee station and complimentary water. - **Noise:** The mini-fridge made quite a bit of noise, which was annoying when trying to sleep. - **Rest:** The bed was comfortable. Although they didn't have memory foam pillows, they offer a feather option. The light and curtain controls are conveniently located next to the bed. - **Amenities:** Very complete; there was no need to ask for anything extra (Shower cap, shave kit, vanity kit, dental kit, slippers, robe, loofah, shoe polish).

### 📍 The Location and the Winter "Hack" (Underground) We were in Yorkville right in the middle of the Christmas season. The lights and decorations make the area magical, but the sub-zero temperatures are unforgiving. This is where the hotel shines: it has direct access to the underground. **How to get there?** 1. Go down to the Main Floor and look for the door to the parking elevator. 2. Go down to level -1. 3. Walk, go through a door, and voilà! You are in the underground system. To the left, you have a Dollarama and a small food court. If you go to the right, you connect with Bloor-Yonge station, a Starbucks, and continue towards Holt Renfrew (a luxury department store chain) or the Manulife Centre (where Eataly is located). From here, you can take the subway to the Eaton Centre, to the Scotiabank Arena for a concert, or connect with Union Station for the airport without ever stepping onto the street. **Location Score: 10/10.** You have a Longo's supermarket nearby and a thousand options for window shopping, eating, and grabbing coffee.

### 🍽️ Dining and Service Upon returning from our "underground" walk, we found a congratulatory note and a sweet treat in the room. It sweetened our night! **Dinner at The Living Room:** The atmosphere is quiet, with background music ideal for relaxing. We ordered Korean chicken, croquettes, and a burger. The food is "bar food" style (it does the job, but doesn't stand out), but it must be said that the service was outstanding. Perhaps because there were few people, but we felt very taken care of. **Breakfast:** Limited to what you see in the display cases and some sandwiches or eggs à la carte. We decided to go out for coffee outside the hotel, which was the best choice given the number of coffee shops in the area. **Extra tip:** The hotel has a rooftop restaurant that is only open for dinner, although we didn't try it on this occasion.

Al llegar al piso 10, donde está nuestra habitación, uno se percata de que los pasillos son un poco estrechos, no lineales y no tan iluminados, lo que hace que sientas que puedes perderte fácilmente. El diseño audaz del W contrasta texturas y materiales, creando un ambiente teatral y artístico. Al entrar a la Studio Suite, el diseño de "concepto abierto" es lo primero que impacta: **El Layout:** Lo primero que ves o notas al ingresar son los dos lavabos y sus espejos frente a la puerta, y es que se "ingresa por el baño". Girando a la derecha, puertas de vidrio separan el inodoro y la ducha. A la izquierda, una mesa con tres sillas y el closet de fondo. **La Cama:** Está ubicada delante de la ventana, dando la espalda a la luz y mirando hacia los espejos del baño y un televisor que no está centrado con la cama. Cama de buen tamaño y cómoda. **Nuestra Crítica:** Para quienes amamos la luz natural, la distribución nos pareció un desacierto. La cama bloquea la entrada de luz (que da a un patio interno) y deja al sofá en la zona más oscura de la habitación, obligándote a usar la lámpara de pie incluso de día. Hubiese sido ideal intercambiar la posición de la cama con la del sofá. **Detalles que cuentan:** - La habitación es amplia, con estación de café y aguas de cortesía. - **El ruido:** El frigobar hacía bastante ruido, lo cual fue molesto al momento de dormir. - **Descanso:** La cama era cómoda. ### 📍 La Ubicación y el "Hack" del Invierno (Underground) Estábamos en Yorkville en plena época navideña. Las luces y decoraciones hacen la zona mágica, pero las temperaturas bajo cero no perdonan. Aquí es donde el hotel brilla: tiene acceso directo al underground. **¿Cómo llegar?** 1. Bajas al Main Floor y buscas la puerta hacia el ascensor del estacionamiento. 2. Bajas al piso -1. 3. Caminas, cruzas una puerta y ¡listo! Estás en el sistema subterráneo. A la izquierda tienes un Dollarama y un pequeño patio de comidas. Si vas a la derecha, conectas con la estación Bloor-Yonge, un Starbucks, y sigues hacia Holt Renfrew (cadena de tiendas de lujo) o el Manulife Centre (donde está Eataly). Desde aquí puedes ir en metro al Eaton Centre, al Scotiabank Arena para un concierto o conectar con Union Station hacia el aeropuerto sin tocar la calle. **Puntaje de Ubicación: 10/10.** Tienes un supermercado Longo's cerca y mil opciones para vitrinear, comer y tomar café.

### 🍽️ Gastronomía y Servicio Al volver de nuestro paseo "bajo tierra", encontramos una nota de felicitación y un detalle dulce en la habitación. ¡Nos endulzaron la noche! **Cena en The Living Room:** El ambiente es tranquilo, con música de fondo ideal para relajarse. Pedimos pollo coreano, croquetas y una hamburguesa. La comida es tipo bar food (cumple, pero no sobresale), pero cabe decir que la atención fue sobresaliente. Quizás porque había poca gente, pero nos sentimos muy cuidados. **Desayuno:** Limitado a lo que ves en las vitrinas y algunos sándwiches o huevos a la carta. Decidimos salir por un café fuera del hotel, lo cual fue la mejor elección dada la cantidad de cafeterías en la zona. **Dato extra:** El hotel tiene un restaurante en la azotea que solo abre para la cena, aunque en esta ocasión no lo probamos.
